Erie Insurance creates a best-in-class agent experience while cutting product delivery time in half.
Erie Insurance Group is a publicly held United States automobile, home and life insurer. Erie is ranked at position 381 of the Fortune 500 list. They sell their products through a network of 2,200 independent agencies in the USA and Canada, and have nearly 4.9 million policyholders.
Erie Insurance’s agents were reporting that their experience with the process for selling Commercial policies was inefficient and manually intensive, requiring telephone calls, e-mails with up to two-day turnaround times. Erie started a project, in 2014, to address this by creating a real-time web-based agent portal. This portal enables the independent agents to obtain quotes, supply proposals to prospects and submit applications, increasing their efficiency and customer service.
Why Choose Mendix?
Erie found it difficult to attract and retain developers in Pennsylvania, Mendix was able to provide a diverse development set of talent and were able to support an ambitious architecture modernisation plan. Together, over a five-year period, they replaced Erie Insurance’s core systems.
Erie’s one-stop-shop Quote and Application System (QAS) enables independent agents to sell Erie policies. Previously manual processes have now been digitised and this broker portal has delivered proven business benefits:
The Digitised insurance products have also seen up to a 39% increase in submitted applications, and a 54% increase in policies in place. This success was recognised when Erie Insurance won the 2019 Celent Model Insurer Award for Legacy and Ecosystem Transformation.
Due to the success of the Quote and Application System, Erie has now adopted the Mendix platform as its experience layer. This means that in the future, all individual interactions (inside or outside Erie) with Erie’s core systems will be with Mendix applications.
